‘Peace for Ukraine’ is an Anti War poster inspired by some of my favorite artists, BANKSY and Shepard Fairey. It’s an original painting created directly on a sheet of 30 original uncut Ukrainian Hryvnia (the local currency) which my dad got from a rare currency dealer.
The significance of the sunflower in this piece comes from a story I heard at the beginning of the invasion. The story goes like this: there was a Russian soldier standing in a civilian area. A woman approaches the soldier and hands him sunflower seeds to put in his pocket telling him that when he dies on Ukrainian soil, his body will contribute to the rebirth of Ukraine with the planting of a sunflower patch. This lead to the sunflower becoming a universal sign of rebellion in Ukraine.
Each of the thirty bills that make up this sheet has been ‘fractionalized’ into 30 individual one-of-one NFTs.
The original IRL painting- which comes with a 1/1 NFT of the entire piece- is up for auction.
Every dollar raised will go towards helping kids who have been impacted and displaced by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
What’s more valuable than money?
Like all of us, my heart breaks for the kids and families who have been killed, displaced and hurt because of Russia’s cruel invasion.
When I was asked to create a piece for NFTLA I knew I wanted to use the opportunity to raise money and awareness for kids affected by the invasion of Ukraine.
